Nataliea Lowson

PhD Candidate, University of Southern Queensland

Nataliea is an astronomer, science communicator and filmmaker. Currently undertaking a PhD in Astrophysics at the University of Southern Queensland, her research focuses on characterising both the physical and chemical features of exoplanet atmospheres.

When Nataliea is not trying to understand the universe, she is helping others to. Nataliea uses her online presence to explain the physics surrounding our daily lives, facts about astronomy, how to live a more eco-friendly plastic free lifestyle, advocating women’s equality in STEM and documenting her PhD journey to help others understand what a career in academia can look like.

While an undergraduate in 2017, she maintained an employed position at the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) where she produced an educational astronomy YouTube series. It teaches viewers about observational astronomy, instruments used on Australia’s largest optical telescope and how astronomers obtain the observations.
